Rutland is the smallest ancient county in the UK and it is bounded by Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, and Leicestershire. The landlocked county offers a taste of traditional England with its old cottages built from either ironstone or limestone. There are only two towns in Rutland: Oakham and Uppingham. The first town currently holds a coveted Britain in Bloom award while the latter town is famous for its market square. Situated right in the heart of the county is the Rutland Water, which is known as the playground of East Midland with water sports, nature reserves, outdoor adventure centre, rock climbing, cycling and walking.
