It could be assumed that since Amersham-on-the-Hill has only existed for the last 125 years or so, it might have very little to interest the historian compared to the much older part of Old Town. However, the story of Amersham-on-the-Hill deserves attention and the reasons for its existence has meant that the Old Town has remained mostly unchanged.
