When you hire a car in the UK, there are minimum age requirements. Here is a list of the minimum age requirements for each of our suppliers.
Europcar: 22 years old at most depots. This varies per location - sometimes the minimum age is 26 years old. Drivers between 21-24 will be required to pay a surcharge.
Avis: You need to have help your driver's license for three years and those under 25 will be required to pay a Young Driver surcharge.
Enterprise: You must be 25 years or older. Drivers aged between 25 and 29 may not hire some full size, premium and 4x4 vehicles. Those over 30 may rent any type of vehicle, if they meet all other requirements.
Hertz: The minimum age is 25 years old, and 30 years for any luxury or prestige vehicles. Those aged over 23 are able to rent mini, economy, and compact vehicles provided they pay the Young Driver Surcharge.
Alamo: To hire a car with Alamo, drivers must be aged over 25 years. Any renters aged from 25 - 29 years may not be able to hire some full size, premium and 4x4 vehicles.
Budget: Budget requires drivers aged between 23 and 25 to pay a Young Driver Surcharge, capped at 10 days. Restrictions on what type of vehicle young drivers can hire will also apply.
Thrifty: Drivers must be aged over 21. Those between 21 to 24 will be subject to a surcharge, and a restricted to economy and standard vehicles. Renters must be over 30 to hire prestige, luxury and elite vehicles.
Green Motion: Young drivers aged from 21 to 24 cannot drive any large, or estate vehicles. They also must have at least two years of driving experience and are subject to a daily surcharge. Minibuses, luxury cars and people movers are restricted to those aged over 30.
Sixt: You must be aged over 21 to hire a vehicle with Six, and you will be required to pay a Young Driver Surcharge. Those aged under 30 may be restricted to certain kinds of vehicles.
