Driving Licence Requirements

The driver and any additional drivers must present a valid driver's licence in their own name, held for at least 1 year (2 years for some car groups).
The driver's licence must be valid for the duration of the rental.
A photocopy of the driver's licence is not acceptable.
If the driver has been disqualified from driving in their own country, they will not be able to rent.
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended , local laws in some countries require foreign drivers to have an IDP. Failure to produce an IDP when asked by the local police may result in a fine and could result in the impounding of the car. Renters are advised to check local requirements of the countries where they wish to travel to.
UK driver's licences.
If a UK driver's licence has been lost, has expired or is being renewed, temporary documents provided by the DVLA might be accepted only for Hertz rentals in the UK only, please check with your rental location.
Drivers with the current issue UK driving licence must present both photocard and paper parts until the paper part is abolished in June 2015. Failure to present one part may result in the local Hertz staff being unable to provide the car. Some locations in the UK might still be able to verify the licence even if only the photocard is presented, by contacting the DVLA; this may only happen if the rental takes place during DVLA opening hours and only at the discretion of the pickup location - a fee will be charged.
For UK (excluding Northern Ireland):

From June 8th 2015, the paper counterpart of the UK photo card driving licence will not be valid and will no longer be issued by the DVLA. This change applies to Great Britain only and not Northern Ireland.
From June 8th when renting in the UK, Armenia, Austria, Balearics, Canaries, Hungary, Oman, Slovenia, Sweden and Tunisia, all drivers with a UK licence (Great Britain) will need to provide evidence of any driving endorsements. This also applies if you have a paper licence that was issued before 1998.
